Catalogue Raisonné Sculpture in Stone (MFA), no. 162.
DescriptionThe nose, the chin, and parts of the lips (?) have been restored in plaster. An outer piece of the left ear is restored in marble. The surfaces have acquired a rich yellow patina, partly cleaned particularly around the eyes.
Herakles wears a crown or rolled fillet, tied with ribbons, in his curly hair. There are "traces of yellow-red color on the eyes and hair."

Isotope ratios - delta13C +2.108 / delta18O -1.617, Attribution - Carrara, Justification (Petrographic Analysis) - maximum grain size (0.9, 0.7 mm), Mg present.
Provenance1888: purchased by R. Lanciani from Augusto Valenzi (origin said to be Rome); purchased by MFA from R. Lanciani, 1888, for $491.89 (this is the total purchase price for MFA 88.346–530)
