DescriptionThis blue glazed faience amulet represents the solar god Re-Horakhty as a falcon with the sun's disk above his head. Because Re-Horakhty was associated with the rising sun, amulets of him were believed to assist the wearer with rebirth each day in the afterlife. The back of the amulet is flat.
ProvenanceFrom Semna. 1928: excavated by the Harvard University–Boston Museum of Fine Arts Expedition; assigned to the MFA in the division of finds by the government of Sudan.
