DescriptionThis disc-shaped mirror has an ornamental handle that, when originally attached, would have projected vertically from the center of back. It is currently not affixed to its original position. There is significant wear on several surfaces, some foreign (possibly modern?) substances adhering, and small areas of light green bronze patina.
ProvenanceFrom Gammai, Nubia (Sudan), Grave 116, object #1. 1915-6: excavated by Oric Bates & Dows Dunham for the Harvard Peabody Museum; 1916: assigned to Oric Bates in the division of finds with the Sudanese government; Sept. 4, 1924: given to the MFA by Mrs. Oric Bates.
