DescriptionThis lower half of a seated statue of Thutmose III is preserved from the waist down. the king wears a heb-sed cloak with triple incised line on the edge of the garment. It is inscribed on the front edges of the seat beside the legs.: "The good god Menkheperre/The son of Re Thutmose, beloved of Amen of Gebel Barkal, forever." The surface is polished. There is negative space behind and between the legs.
ProvenanceFrom Nubia (Sudan) Gebel Barkal, temple B 501, found sitting on top of boat shrine (MFA 23.728). 1920: excavated by the Harvard University-Boston Museum of Fine Arts Expedition and assigned to the MFA by the Sudanese government. (Accession date: January 1, 1921)
