DescriptionThis is the rear board portion of a wooden mummy mask. It is comprised of two fitted pieces of wood to depict the view of a person's upper back and tripartite wig. The wig is covered primarily by a black ground with traces of blue-green paint on the upper section likely indicating the original color of the lappet wig.
ProvenanceFrom Deir el-Bersha, tomb of Djehutynakht (tomb 10, shaft A). May 1915: Excavated by the Harvard University-Boston Museum of Fine Arts Expedition; assigned to the MFA in the division of finds by the government of Egypt. 1921: received by the MFA. (Accession Date: March 1, 1921)
