DescriptionThis canopic jar is carved of travertine (Egyptian alabaster) with roughly eveninly distributed veins. Virtually straight sides flare outward from a fairly narrow base to wide, bulging shoulders that curve gradually to a narrow aperture. No traces of applied text are evident. The interior cavity contains a black, earthy deposit. It is in perfect condition.
ProvenanceFrom Deir el-Bersha. 1915: excavated by the Harvard University–Boston Museum of Fine Arts Expedition; assigned to the MFA in the division of finds by the government of Egypt.
