DescriptionThis is the lower front portion of a mummy mask of cartonnage (plaster-soaked linen) showing the chest and ends of a tripartite wig. The chest bears a broad collar painted in bands of blue, white, green and red, accented with blue teardrop pendants. The lappets of the wig are painted blue-green. The upper (face) portion of the mask is missing.
ProvenanceFrom Deir el-Bersha, tomb of Djehutynakht, (tomb 10, shaft A). May 1915: Excavated by the Harvard University-Boston Museum of Fine Arts Expedition; assigned to the MFA in the division of finds by the government of Egypt. 1921: received by the MFA. (Accession Date: March 1, 1921)
