DescriptionPainting in hanging scroll (thangka) format, no streamers or veil.

Yama and Yami stand on a bull, engulfed in flames. At the top of the painting are three Gelukpa (yellow-hat) lamas seated on thrones. Around the central couple, on all four sides, are fifteen wrathful deities, each engulfed in flames, some riding on animal vehicles.
InscriptionsOn reverse, in red ink, mantras.
Provenance1913, with a Mr. Re, China; October 5, 1913, sold by Mr. Re to Hayasaki Kokichi (b. 1874 - d. 1956) [see note 1] and taken to Japan; December, 1913, shipped to Boston and purchased by the MFA. (Accession Date: January 8, 1914)
