DescriptionThis is the left hand component of a coffin/mummy case. It likely would have been attached to an anthropoid case opposed with the right hand as though crossed over the chest. Remnants paint indicate it was dark brown. Much of the paint has flaked off of the surface. A hole in the middle of the hand still retains part of the peg for attachment to the main coffin/case.
ProvenanceFrom Abydos, tomb D 115. 1901: excavated by William Matthew Flinders Petrie for the Egypt Exploration Fund, assigned to the Egypt Exploration Fund in the division of finds by the government of Egypt, received by the MFA through subscription to the Egypt Exploration Fund.
