DescriptionThis solid, dummy canopic jar of limestone is carved in the shape of a narrow jar with very slight, high shoulders topped by a jackal head. The head represents Duamutef, one of the Four Sons of Horus, protectors of the viscera of the deceased. The left ear is chipped. Black painted details have been added for the facial features: eyes and mouth. No traces of applied text are evident.
ProvenanceSaid to be from Gurna. 1903-1904: purchased for the MFA from Mohamed Mohassib, Luxor, Egypt by Albert M. Lythgoe (with object 04.1885) for £1.10; 1904: acquired with funds from the Sears Fund with additions. (Accession date: 1904)
