DescriptionEads was the engineer and architect of the first bridge across the Mississippi River at Saint Louis, one of the signal engineering accomplishments of the decades after the Civil War. The construction of the bridge, which is still extant, is chronicled in Calvin Woodward's "A History of the St. Louis Bridge," published in 1881. (MFA accession number 2018.2278)
