DescriptionExecution scene (Mary Queen of Scots?) Three men and three women in 16th century style dress. One woman is kneeling before the block, holding a cross to her chest, while the other two console her. The men, one seated, one holding a headsman's axe, look on. Country setting. Polychrome floss silk and chenille yarns purl and spangles over a silk (?) ground. Sky, heads and hands of the figures are painted directly onto the ground. Paint cracked and missing in areas. Mounted on a board.
