DescriptionJacket, waistcoat, and trousers of dark blue broadcloth trimmed with dark blue silk braid; (a) jacket open down front flaring slightly toward bottom edge, short standing collar, long sleeves buttoning below elbow; (b) trousers very full with fitted lower legs ending in scallops, hooked below knee; (c) waistcoat sleeveless, button down front, short standing collar. Made for John Lowell, Jr. in Turkey while on his world tour. Thought to be the costume he is wearing one of his portraits painted by Gleyre (L-R 8.65)
