DescriptionPart of an orphrey for a cope. Narrow cotton (weft) and linen (warp) panel with narrower strips of plain green velvet sewn along the two long sides. Divided verticaly into two complete and two incomplete compartments, showing, bottom to top, Annunciation to Joachim, Birth of the Virgin, Marriage of the Virgin and Apostles appearing before the Virgin. Figures rendered in split stitch with polychrome silks against grounds of couched gold threads showing a relief pattern of rinceaux. Threads worn off in many places. Three small areas of bright yellow gold are restorations.
