DescriptionThis necklace has five horizonal oval (one is almost retangular) delicately carved cameos of mythological scenes alternating with five smaller vertically set ovals containing cameos of classical women's busts in profile. The bezels are shaped to conform to the edges of the cameos. Each piece is connected by small loops to rosettes which at one time had pendants. One can see a sawed mark left on the bottom edge of the rosette.
The metal around the bezel is stamped into an elaborate openwork high relief scroll design, probably gold.
The necklace is closed with a tongue and groove clasp.
