DescriptionCarle Vernet, wearing a long coat, stands in the center, in profile, looking right with a pad in his left hand and a pen (brush) in his right
Vernet's top hat and walking stick are on a rock (ledge) behind him; flora is visible in this area and two trees, one larger than the other, with some leaves are to the left
In front of Vernet, but a distance away, two soldiers are on horseback...the horse of the soldier closer to Vernet looks to be startled
There appears to be a third soldier sketched in between Vernet and the soldier on the startled horse and soldiers sketched behind and between the two on horseback and one behind and to the right of the front soldier
