He wrinkles his snout, and his teeth are bared in a gentle snarl. His mane is expressed in series of flamelike tufts, each distinct row carved in an alternate direction, and a ridge of fur or hair starts down the center of the back, for a relatively short distance. The legs and tail have been recomposed and restored from fragments, with the missing areas executed in colored plaster. The forelegs and feet are nearly complete, and they join on the plinth to give the animal a correct angle as now mounted.
