The gold brooch on top is in the shape of an asymmetric, inverted triangle. Depicted in relief (repousse) on the soft, matte surface is a geranium blossom, its petals and stamens directed upwards. The stem, flanked by two leaves with scalloped borders, continues beyond the apex of the brooch and is highlighted by four bezel-set, pink sapphires. The second brooch is composed of a vibrant, hot pink stone (cobalto calcite druse) bezel-set in silver. It is surmounted by a small stem from which two modelled leaves emerge. She states, "I begin by painting the unbaked polymer with acrylics. Metallic and custom formulated interference paints and glazes allow me to create shimmering surfaces with subtle color shifts. Once the paint dries, it becomes a brittle skin. With specially designed tools, I score and etch the hardened paint. then I manipulate and stretch the soft raw clay beneath, revealing a fine network of cracks in the painted surface." This neckpiece as created from large sheets of variegated colored polymer wrapped and layered around a gray core. Then it was hand formed by pushing and pulling out each ruffle. Substantial armatures and braces support the piece during the curing process. The color range for 'Sleeping Beauty' is a dark 'Royal Blue' to a light 'Sky Blue.' In this case, oval turqoise beads have been highlighted by fragments of 24 kt gold leaf that have been attached to depressed areas on the stone.
